The first thing that you are going to have is a shelter. This could be a tent, or maybe you will bring an RV or a trailer, or something as simple as a hammock. Bring anything to make it more comfortable so that you are able to sleep throughout the night.

Depending on the weather, you might be able to just get by with a sleeping bag, or a very little sleeping mat because you will never know what is going to happen with the weather so it is much better to plan on bringing a shelter with you. The bedding will depend on which shelter choice you go with. If its an RV or trailer, you’ll probably have a bed built into that. If it’s a hammock, that’s a sleeping arrangement by itself. Now if you go with a tent, what you’ll need is a sleeping bag, a pillow, and an optional air mattress. In case if there’s rocks or something under your camping site, it is nice just to get that little extra layer of cushion and make it a more comfortable experience through the night.

Look up activities to engage in prior to getting to your destination. This will allow you to check for any deals that may be offered. Also, it will help you be more prepared when you actually get to your destination. You can find trails that may be appropriate for everyone in your family or restaurants that you would enjoy. When you go camping, be sure to have a few activities in mind other than just… “camping”. The camping experience is enriched by hiking, swimming, exploring and things like that. Be sure to engage in some of these other activities so that you have the fullest camping experience you’ve ever had. Reserve your spot at a campground as soon as possible. Think about all the things you might need days before you leave on your trip, especially if you will be far from any store. Pre-cool your ice chest by filling it with loads of ice, at least six hours prior to departure. When you are about to leave, pack up your refrigerated cooled drinks and block ice, not cubed. Popping room temp beverages will take up valuable ice-life, and the cubes will melt much quicker than a block! Site gear is really important. This is just a gear for everyone to use for a general campsite. In some cases, everyone brings their own. But these are things that are generally for the entire campsite. Now first of all, what you’ll want is a lantern of some light source. Usually, a lantern is the best option. It’s nice to just have it on your picnic table and lights up when you’re eating dinner or cooking your food. The next you need to bring is chairs. It is nice to put them around the campfire and sit in there to stay warm. Next is garbage bags so you want to make sure everything that you bring with you in camping, will be properly taken out since we don’t want to just leave our trash behind. Pick up everything before you leave.

Remember that there will be no washing facilities, and you also need to think about how the weather can call for certain specific attire as well at times. You always want to be prepared, so pack accordingly. Camping is fun, and camping with kids can be even more fun, but certain precautions need to be made for these little campers. Take plenty of extra clothes for them, because they will get dirty and wet. It’s important they don’t stay in wet clothes because it’s possible, it could result in hypothermia. This goes for adults, too. Camping with children, place each set of their clothing in a zippered plastic bag or a tied plastic grocery bag. By sorting and packing their clothes in this manner, each morning your child can grab a package and have an entire outfit of clothing for the day. When it is time to go to bed at night, each child can stuff the soiled clothing back into the plastic bag and place it back into their suitcase and not soil unworn clothing.
